which would run faster? a 700 celeron or a 450 P3?

Yeah, the Celeron.
A first gen P3 such as the 450 would have a slow, half-speed cache. That Celeron 700 would be quite a bit faster due to it's fullspeed cache. They use different sockets, though. The P3 would go in a Slot 1 mobo; the Celeron needs a Socket 370 mobo.

YEP!

And jack is correct...the only PIII450 that is not slot1 is a mobile version.

A Sloket Card would allow a SKT370 to fit into a Slot1, but yea the Celeron is better.
