celeron 2.80 GHz v. AMD Athlon XP 3200+

Specs: Windows XP Pro
I am not as computer literate as my grandson who knows what I am talking about but when I check the Properties in XP the Celeron Processor indicates a speed of 2.79 GHz and the Athlon shows 2.19 GHz. Is the Celeron really this much faster or is this like comparing Apples to Oranges.

Assuming you're asking about the S478 Celeron @ 400MHz FSB, the AXP 3200+ is faster, MUCH faster. And yes, it's an apples to oranges comparison. Have a look at the following. Notice how much faster the AXP 2500+ is & it only runs at 1.83GHz.

"When compared directly to the Barton XP2500, for example, the 2.8GHz Celeron is found wanting in most areas and positively embarrassed in certain gaming-related benchmarks. The margin closes as clock speed is increased, naturally, but the Celeron isn't a performance design. That shouldn't take away from the glaring fact that it will do most things asked of it. It's more than capable or running normal everyday tasks with consummate ease, and the clock speed, a 'staggering' 2.8GHz, is bound to attract the uninformed buyer."
