CDRW/DVD is detected ... won't run

Dell INSPIRON 6000

Specs: Windows XP
The TSSTcorp CDRW/DVD TSL 462C in my Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP is being detected and says that it is working fine, but it will not run any CDs. It tries and makes noises like it is going to kick in, but then nothing happens. I've tried cleaning the lens ... same results. Is there any way to further test or figure out what is happening? Thanks!

Try a DVD. If you see the same results then it is a bad drive.

Thanks! It won't run CDs, DVDs, or a bootable CD, so I believe it is a hardware issue ... I'll try replacing. Thanks again!
