Comment:

I've been shopping for a CD-RW drive (not a dvd RW) and I've noticed that most of them I find have system requirements on the side. Most of them want a PC with 350MHz.

My PC is a 300 MHz running Windows 2000 Pro. anywho...my question was, why do they require a 350? Will my CPU work with a RW drive? or is that the reqs. for the bundled software? Just wanted to ask before I plop down any $$$. Thanks in advance!

If the min req is 350mhz you can bet that it will only crawl at that speed, I think companys deliveratly set there min. req as low as possable in order to sell to as wide a range of people as possable, simply put, dont buy a CD RW with a min req that is greater than your system.

On the bright side, you should know that you can find a CD RW that has much lower min req. and 8x perhaps, Ive seen some that require only a 166mhz (all though these use an older media), you also need to take into concideration you free HD space, and your RAM.

Id eather get a lower burner, or a better computer, rember that if you buy a more expencive burner, 52x32x52 perhaps, you will be butting a CD RW that probly wont work anyway into a computer that is worth less than the drive.

Like I said Im fairly sure that these drives write to 650mb CD's only.

Have you tried Newegg.com for your drive?? You may find something there you would like better. I used to have an external burner with a 300 mzh running xp and it did burn ok. It took a little while but it did work.

Thanks for the replies...makes sense that a slower burner would have lower sys reqs. I don't really need a superfast one anyway. Plus I'd probably get a better deal at newegg or ebay (why didn't I think of that...lol).

Anywho...thanks a million for your help!
