Will it work?

(I posted the problem under CD-RW cpeed change)

Best,

You can not set jumpers to Scndry [sic].

It's either master or slave.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

You can set the CDRW jumpers to either Master or Slave if it's alone on the cable. If that's what you meant to ask.

If the CDRW is placed on the secondary channel by itself, it should be jumpered as master, not slave

Jam, I notice you keep saying that and it's not really correct. There is no difference between Master and Slave. It was really a mistake naming them that way. They should have used A and B or 1 and 2 so people wouldn't think that Master was better to use than Slave.

Hi ham30,

Yeah, much of the jargon is, at this point, excess baggage.

A 3.5" floppy isn't very floppy.

5.25" were fairly floppy.

And 8" were REALLY floppy.

I usually jumper my CD/DVD drives on the secondary channel as slaves. Master on the secondary channel is used by a hard drive in a removeable caddy. I see no difference in operation with/or without the removeable hard drive.

Would you put the HDD w/OS alone on the primary channel & set it as slave? Just wondering....

No offense to you, but I'm getting tired of questions about IDE configs. If someone wants to pair up 2 HDDs, fine...if they wanna pair up 2 optical drives, that's fine too. Cable select? Best invention since sliced bread - go for it! LOL!

I'm just gonna pass these types of questions by from now on.

Yes, it would work just as well, even if you have an optical drive as Master.

"I'm getting tired of questions about IDE configs."

I hear that. But I do want to say I always agree with your recommendations for configurations.
