There is no difference between Master and Slave. It was really a mistake naming them that way. They should have used A and B or 1 and 2 so people wouldn't think that Master was better to use than Slave.

Reply: (edit)I usually jumper my CD/DVD drives on the secondary channel as slaves. Master on the secondary channel is used by a hard drive in a removeable caddy. I see no difference in operation with/or without the removeable hard drive.

No offense to you, but I'm getting tired of questions about IDE configs. If someone wants to pair up 2 HDDs, fine...if they wanna pair up 2 optical drives, that's fine too. Cable select?
