i bought an oem sony crx230e from newegg.com, and i have nero 6.3 ultra installed. when burning it says the max i can burn at is 40x, even though i know for sure that the max should be 52x. i updated the firmware for it and it still doesn't burn at 52x. does anyone know how to fix this? thanks.

have you tried different brands of media? usually if it only says a certain speed it means the media is actually only going to be any good burned at 40x or below even though it might say 52x on the packaging, personally i burn at 24x but thats through many test with my burner to see which speed gives me the best possible quality, just because your drive and discs are capable of 52x doesnt mean you should burn that fast

i'm using 52x cds, i've tried generic brands, sony, and tdk. they all say the same thing. also when i check the info for my cd rom drive using aida32 it shows question marks for manufacturer, device type, and speed. i burn a lot of data files, so i wouldn't be too worried burning at 52x.

The max speed for burning may depend on the type of data files being burned. Try creating a disk image then burning. I can create a data collection that will kill the burn process for almost any burner. Try to process (burn) many small files in a deep directory structure.
