My cdrw (LG CED 8120B) stops responding often. Sometimes it's after ejecting a cd, sometimes it is when you are trying to read a cd. The only kinds of updates I can find are firmware updates, and they say not to use them on Dell drives. This is not the drive that came installed in my system, but it is from another Dell system.

For example...I just burnt a cd from Windows Media player. It started playing, and I stopped it. I went to eject the cd so that I could burn the next one, but it would not eject. Now, it is not responding at all. I will have to restart my system to get it to work again. It does this often, but not all the time and it's not just one thing that is causing it.

Any ideas?

there are too many in there to see which it was. I will remember that next time though, to see what happened. I cannot remember what time it happened or anything like that. I always forget to check that!

Thanks

If you have that many errors in there, the problem goes beyond the CD. I'm not talking about anything other than a red error. Ignore the warnings for now.

If you have a spare power cable, try swapping the drive to it.
If you don't have a spare, try swapping with a hard drive.
If you are using a 'Y' power cable, try without it. They are famous for causing problems because of poor connections.
It could just be a flaky drive.
