Well, whenever I place a cd in either one of my drives my computer locks up. My computer recognizes the drives and they both read disks. However, as soon as they begin to load something to my hard drive they lock up the entire system. I cannot find any place in xp to set up UDMA or PIO settings. So I flashed my bios. That didn't work so I successfully flashed back to the original bios. I have even tried reloading windows xp twice. i am sure it is something extremely simple. these drives worked fine about a week ago until i had to reload win xp after a harddrive failure. They are on a seperate IDE cable then my old hard drive. They are on the secondary IDE cable with the dvdrom as master and the cdrw as slave. Well any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. if you need more info let me know.

CD-ROM drives(or DVD-ROM drives) will normally work better as slave to the hard disk if problems of this kind show up.Install one on the first IDE port as slave.Good luck.
