Cd-rom problem..help!!

My cd-rom is giving me some problems..even when its new...first problem is that it shows some video cd's with movies of ".dat" extension...as audio cd...when i open this cd i can only see two ".cda" tracks of size 88 bytes..but when i check properties of the cd the size is right..about 600 or 650 MB. The second problem is that when i try to run a game from a cd it gives me this msg.."a device attached to the system is not functioning" the manufacturer name on cd is MTRP.. pls help...
