I am completely stuck, and any help would be amazing.
After Oblivion crashed, I rebooted my CPU. Now my computer cannot initialize my drivers for either my DVD-ROM or CD-RW drive. XP Pro tells me it "failed to initialize the driver." Ive uninstalled and reinstalled both drivers and hardware from the device manager. Doesnt appear on the Disk Management area, either. I even tried out a different CD-ROM unit. All the same failures. It recognizes the units, and loads drivers, but I cannot use them. It's as if they don't exist. I tried my other IDE slot that has my MB attached as master (I slaved the other CD-ROM), and that still causes the same problem. Have the IDE controllers on the MB failed? I cannot run the CD utility, as it wont read the drive. So I can't try and repair. Is my motherboard shot? Please advise!!!

check your hard drive.
See the latter part of response 1 in this:

Try loading the drivers for the main chipset of your mboard - if those drivers have been corrupted, Windows may no longer know what hard drive controllers the mboard has, and without that information CD drives may not be recognized properly, even if there is nothing wrong with the CD drive drivers.
