Hello All !
I have a CD RW which is also my CD-ROM Drive. When I insert any CD, the data on the CD isn't read at all, though the same CD works on other computers. Somehow I managed to clean the drive with the lens cleaner but I'm unsure if its cleaned. When I try to access the cd-rom drive from command prompt, I get the message that the device is not ready. I'm using Windows XP operating system. I would appreciate if I can get a good assistance in this regard to solve my problem. Also, I don't know how to format the cd-rom drive.

Does Device Manager indicate any problems? Have you reseated the IDE data/ribbon cable? Are you sure the IDE data/ribbon cable is connected properly (in relation to pin 1) on both ends? Have you tried using a different the IDE data/ribbon cable? If you are using an 80-wire IDE data/ribbon cable, have your tried using a 40-wire IDE data/ribbon cable, or vice versa?

Is the BIOS properly detecting the drive during boot up? If you boot with a Win98 boot disk and select DOS level CD-ROM support, does it detect the CD-ROM? Do you have the correct drivers for that specific drive installed and are they the most up to date drivers?
