Comment:
Any attempts to access a program which uses the cd/dvd rom drive (D:) such as media players, games etc, the "Add Hardware Wizard" appears and often crashes the system. Checked status of the disc drive and the drivers are current and working, but the actual hardware cannot be found. Should I replace the hardware or is there an easier, cheaper solution?

run your anitvirus. there is a virus that will disable them. next try and reinstall the drivers.
