CD-R/DVD wont read CD contents

Sony / Pcg-384l

Specs: Windows Vista Business, inter core 2 duo t7100/2gbram
I got a coworkers Sony laptop to add some updates. I put SP1 and it destroyed the whole thing. I loaded windows vista business edition on. I added all the drivers/chipset that sony offers on their site. It sees the driver, but when I put a CD in it can read the size but treats it like a blank CD and wants me to drag and drop files to burn. I have tried removing the driver, deleting the lowerfilter and letting it reload, but still no luck. Sony provided no CDs. I dont really know what to do other then reformat....

There may be a restore partition on the laptop. Did you try using THAT to install Vista?

Yes, no recovery options are available that work.

This is a Vista issue and you have posted in the Hardware foum. I don't use Vista. However, that laptop should have a hidden restore partition. The method used to access the restore partition varies by brand and model.

I suggest he you go to the Sony site and download the manuals for that model to determine how to perform a restore.
