Reply: (edit)Hi Sue, It sounds like a bad drive. Can I ask why you are using the cd as a boot drive? Normally that would be the hard drive. You would only need to boot from the cd or floppy if you was trying to setup or diagnose windows or something along that. If you boot without a cd in the cd drive then the pc will do a quick check on the drive to see if anything there and then should load the OS from the hard drive. So you really dont need a cd in the drive, so it shouldnt keep running.

Reply: (edit)I know mohn, its is just I just got thru reinstalling my operating system and had to use it to install, then is when it broke at least I got thru installing, but during the installation I got all kinds of errors and had to cancel and keep doing it over and over till I got no errors, what I ment is I have a Dvd cd drive and a cdrw drive and it is the cdrw drive that is used for the boot drive when using it to start installing and I just happened to use it for installing BUT WHEN I TURN ON COMPUTER or reboot that drive is clinking and making lots of noise even though I am not using it so need to know if I will mess anything up by disableing it in control panel and maybe it will stop making that noise till I get it replaced, or do I need to take it out.

Reply: (edit)Hi Sue, Sorry but now I understand :) I wouldnt worry about it to much unless it becomes annoying. Shouldnt mess anything up. You could just unplug the power and flat cables from it.

Reply: (edit)I think I will have to unplug it because disabling it did not stop it, it still turning You would think that Windows would say everytime I start computer before I disabled it that it is not working, but in properties it says it is working, I just get a red dot and note every so often about it.I have one on the way and have to make appointment for service guy to put it in.
