CD/DVD r not reading

My Sony DVD writer have ultra sentivity for the opticals drive. it is not able to read many of discs saying disc not available, but when i try same disc in my friends pc, it simply read the drive, due to which i had changed the drive once also, but still have same problem, any clue ?

Have you tried using a disc cleaner?
Have you tried updating the Frimware for it?

no, i didn't tried any of it, since i m getting error in some of the CD/DVD only, It works fine with most of others, my DVD writer is only 8 month old.
