Cd/dvd drive no longer being recognized - a fix found. My notebook pc cd/dvd drive was not recognized by windows explorer. I even went and got an external usb dvd writer and plugged it to the usb port and it did not recognize that either. The usb port did recognized my flash drive and my Palm (yes I still use a Palm). I tried upgrading firmware, which did not even get installed since the software could not find the device. I spent hours looking for drivers, reading through discussion forums and gave up for a bit. Then I came across http://dougknox.com/ and he has a fixit utility for my problem that worked. Look unter Win XP fixes and click on CD/DVD not recognized by Windows Explorer.
