cd rom problem

After inserting the CD in CD drive it gives the message that the device is not ready. The problem originates when i inserted a scratched CD two days back.up to then the problem is same.what should i have to do?

Have you tried giving it a good blow. Sometimes dust can get into the cd-rom and obstruct the laser. If not get a cd-rom cleaner and run it in the drive. If that does not work you can try reinstalling it, if no joy think about replacing the laser or investing in a new one.
