Compaq / Deskpro en 6400
April 27, 2009 at 12:28:48
Specs: Windows 98
I rescued an compaq deskpro EN 6400 from the thrift and it works pretty o.k. Runs win 98. However my kids did something and the CD stop working. No light no activity.
The device is loaded in the device mananger, i can see the icon for it in my computer. Have refreshed the drivers a billion times. It says the best drivers are insalled. But when I boot up line by line command, it says that there is an error in line 8,unable to detect ATAPI IDE CD-Rom, ATAPI IDE CD-Rom device driver not loaded. How do i fix this? Do not have a bootdisk, or have access to one. Can i type something in that helps?

CD-ROM drives don't need any special drivers installed, they're already included in Windows. Unplug the power cord, open the case & check the cables to make sure they're securely connected. And blow the dust out while you're at it. Whatever you do, do NOT use a vacuum.
