Hi Friends,
My CD/DVD drive is behaving very strangely. If I put a CD in, it is not at all recognized and I can't write a CD. Where as if I put a DVD it is recognized and I am able to write DVD's. I had set my machine back to factory setting even then the same problem exists. Can any one suggest a solution for this

It sounds like one of the two lasers in your burner as gone out or is dirty. Is this a Laptop?

I agree with Mr Hill.

Have you tried one of drive cleaners you can buy in a cheapo shop. Here in the UK they cost £1.

Make sure the cleaner covers both cd and dvd drives.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Deepak - the pc does not recocognise a cleaning disc.

You have to put a drop or two of the alcahol that came with the cleaning disc on its brushes (there should be a least two).

When the pc 'looks' at the cleanig disc, it spins and the brushes clean the laser(s).

Give a few seconds to dry, then try to read an original (rather than a copy) cd or dvd.

As a matter of interest, where are you located? I am in Hammersmith, West London.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Hi Mike,
My Cleaning CD is not accompanied by any alcohol. And moreover it has only one brush. Please let me know what should be done for this.

I am from India but currently in Chicago

Thanks
Deepak
