CD not detected by PC

Specs: N/A, Compaq presario
Whenever I insert a disk into my PC, the computer doesn't detect the disc. It just keeps running like the disk doesn't exist. How do I fix this?

"Specs: N/A, Compaq presario"
"the computer doesn't detect the disc"

Too much trouble to list the OS & specs? Did you look in My Computer to see if the CD/DVD is listed? Is the disc shown as being in the drive? If you have auto-start disabled, you'll have to access the disc manually.

I don't know what "specs" and "OS" is. In fact, I really don't know about anything you're talking about

Specs= Specifications such as what type of CPU (Central Processing Unit), RAM (Random Access Memory), age of the computer, What type of drive IE. CD/DVD, what type of disc you're putting in the drive IE. CD/DVD, etc.

OS= Operating System

Not to be rude, but if you can't follow the simple questions that riider asked, I don't think your up to the task to troubleshoot the drive. Take it to a shop.

OS = Operating System. In other words, which version of Windows? 98, 2000, XP, Vista, 7?

Specs = specifications. In other words, the list of hardware used in your computer. Motherboard, CPU, memory, hard drive, CD/DVD drive, power supply, etc? If you don't know, could you at least provide the model number of your Presario?

"I really don't know about anything you're talking about"

You don't know where the "My Computer" icon is? You don't know how to find the CD/DVD drive in the "My Computer" folder? Have you ever used a computer before?
