For some strange reason, my CD drive will not play audio CDs. It works fine with any other CD (installation CDs, mp3 CDs, etc.), just not audio CDs. (I mean *real* audio not burned). Under My Computer it recognizes the CD. I have tried running the CD Player in Accessories: Entertainment, I have tried Windows Media Player, and I have tried Winamp. I can add tracks to the playlist, but when I go to play it does one of two things. One the song will run with no sound (my speakers are fine and all hooked up right), or it will play REAAAAAALLLY slow (as in I will get a millisecond of the song, a minute later get another tiny sound of the song). I do not know the brand of the CD player, it is not a CD-RW, and my computer is a Dell Opliplex GX 150 (the small integrated kind which I don't care much for, but it was a gift). If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks!! :)

In case of audio, the CDROM will send signal directly to the soundcard not the motherboard. Case of data, it will send through the ATAPI interface. The CDROM have the sound decoder to decode audio cd format. Check the audio cable and it should go from the back of the CDROM to the soundcard (to the motherboard if you have soundcard build in) Goodluck
