normally when i instal win98 i use a windows98 startup floppy disc to start the computer. (you can make one from any computer with windows98 on it as long as it has a floppy drive of course).
When the computer starts it asks if you want to start with CD rom support. You need to answer yes (of course) and then it uses a generic cd rom driver from the floppy disc.
However, in this mode the CD rom drive is usually Drive E (not D) as D is a virtual ram drive which has been temporarily created.
So at the prompt you would need to use drive E and the file name: Setup and the win98 CD in the CD rom drive will begin loading.
Thats how i have always done it with win98second edition.

Dude..you can do a simple process and it will solve all the problems.Follow these steps

A) Go to the present computer where you are reading this.Open My computer , insert a 3.5 Floppy and right click on the 3.5 floppy icon , click format and now a small windows pops .Check the option make a MS-DOS startup disk. After the process is compelete ,remove the floppy disk.

B)Go to the computer where you formatted the PC.If you know where to go to bios, check for an option that states "where to boot from".Select the option to make the first boot device to "Floppy drive". Save and restart

C)Before the PC starts insert the floppy and insert the Win 98 CD.Automattically so many stuff comes..don't worry. 3 options comes.Choose 1st option which states" Boot computer with the help of CD-ROM support".

The rest automattically will come the setup screen.Thats it and the rest you know I pursume...

Take care...post your reply...
