I know there are programs that let you see the specs of your processor. Are there any like that for a CD or DVD Drive? I got a CD drive and I'm not sure I got exactly what was advertised becasue its a lot slower then my other 52x CD Drive. So I just want to make sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Dowload InfoTool.exe from Nero. It will tell you everything you need to know about your CD drive and more besides. Whether it works with CD-ROM I do not know but it certaily does a good job with CE Writers.

Thanks for your help guys. What was advertised as a 52x\24x\52x is really a 32x read and 2x write. =/ I'll be sure to have it exchanged quickly. Once again, thanks a lot.

Your Welcome.

And when you take the drive back take a printout from the programme with you. These sharks can be quite slippery at times.

Thanks for the advice.

A question though. What is the write and read speeds when it comes to ?x/?x/?x. Assuming read is 32x and write is 2x, it would be 32x/2x/32x?

Oh, one more question. My other drive has this thing while burning CDs. Whatever CD it burns, some of the contents cant be copied. I get a 'Data Cycle Redundancy' problem or something like that. Any idea what this is?

Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) error is what I think you mean. Its an error check to check the validity of data written compared to the original. It does a complex mathematical calculation on the source data and the same complex mathematical calculation on the written data. The results should be the same. If they are not then there is something wrong.

It would seem the the CD Drive is on its last legs.

I think it's:
CDR write/CDRW write/CD read

I believe zach is correct.
32xWrite -- 2xre-write -- 32xread

The speed of re-write may depend on the CDRW disc.
I seem to remember my CDRW drive writing at different speeds.
