My computer's disc tray constantly keeps opening and closing for no reason. Its very spooky. I tried reinstalling the driver (after uninstalling). Then I tried to disable the hardware, and it still keeps opening and closing randomly and frequently. What sorts of things can cause this problem? Do you have any suggestions? Maybe the wiring is a problem? It was working fine then one day it suddenly happened. Oh and I scanned for viruses with AVG and found none. I keep AVG updated too.

I first thought it may be a virus.
Not putting AVG down, but would suggest scanning with something other than AVG to prove - A2 or Spybot maybe.
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I had several drives which open and closed by itself. The usual case has been the slide has been obstructed so that the switch does not close completely. The either the switch needs adjustment or the slide is being obstructed.
