Ok-

We've got a Gateway laptop here that has XP on it, and we've had problems burning audio CDs. Data CDs burn just fine all the time. We've tried a whole bunch of different burning programs, Nero, RecordNow, etc, etc. We've done a clean install of Windows XP, and we've tried swapping the drive out with another burner and have had the same problem.

We did get Nero to burn some audio CDs, but they only had the first few seconds worth of audio and then the rest of the CD just fizzled off.

The drive used to work with ME (fancy that...).

Please help...we've been at this for a while!

You say it worked with me, it sounds as though it is not compatable with xp.Try going onto the makers site and seeing if there is an updated driver for it to operate with xp. I had a simular problem with a writer and I gave it away, it was only 4 years old.

I have a similar problem, but mine will allow CD burning for music with real player, play audio CDs and play DVDs but will not copy picture files to a CD using the XP wizard. I have tried several makes of CD-R and CD-RW, all of which will hapilly record music, but when the wizard runs I get "there is no recordable disc in the drive" messages. Since I know the disc IS recordable and brand new, this is a little annoying to say the least. If I find a solution I'll let you know.
