I can only capture v poor quality via USb connector on dig. video camera.. Using image mixer software that came with DVCamera, converting to MPEG then exporting to Pinnacle.Camera also has a DV connector (i.link). could this help?

Hi Helen,
Turn off all running applications.
Including messengers. outlook, anti virus, even internet connection and a connection manager if present.
What I am saying is, the less you have running the more your resources your PC have for video treansfer.
Make sure UDMA is on, even to the point of setting to PIO rebooting and setting BACK to UDMA and rebooting.
Large empty Hard Drive. Windows will start dropping frames if there is a size issue.
Unplug other usb devices.

Read this. http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/modesUDMA-c.html

Right click on My Computer. Select properties, hardware tab, device manager.

look for-
IDE ATA/ATAPI conroler. Click the + sign.
Right click the Harddrive Icon and choose properties. Check the transfer modes. Like I said before, go ahead and set to pio, then reboot then set all back to UDMA and reboot again.

The DV connector (i.link) (?firewire) would give better quality. You would need the corresponding input on your computer. Your capture through the USB ports depends a lot on the software. Normally you would capture, then edit in Pinnacle, then convert to mpeg. If you convert to mpeg first then you would be losing image quality.
