Can't (yet) set monitor to native resolution?

Specs: Windows 7 64, Intel i7 930 / 4GB
I just plugged my new monitor into my nice newish computer, only to find it blurry from not being able to set it to its native resolution.

I've got a radeon HD 4670, and I'm pretty sure it's maximum resolution is supposed to be 1920x1080, which is the monitor's native res! It's currently as high as my computer will let it go at 1680x1050, so I'm a little iffy on what to do about it. I'm currently using the VGA cable because the card doesn't have the exact kind of port for the HDMI/DVI cable the monitor came with, so should I go and get one that I can use? If that won't do the trick, what am I missing?

Well, what is the native resolution for your monitor? You didn't bother to post the make/model. Are you sure it's 1920x1080?
