can't sign on to my computer after improper

Specs: Windows XP
I have Windows XP Professional. My computer froze and I had to shut it down. Now I can't get back on to the computer. I can get it to the black screen that offers options on signing on: Safe mode; safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known working; start windows normally.

Unfortunately, all of these attempt to restart but end up taking me in a circle back to this screen. When I try safe mode, a screen of test appears, each starting with: windows\system32\drivers---following by additional text.

I tried installing my original Upgrade XP Professional CD. It doesn't run any fixess and it keeps asking me to install the Repair disc into the floppy drive.

Help, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to use this CD to do a repair? Or any other thoughts? Thanks. Lucy
