I installed windows XP on a friends computer p3/500mhz 256mb ram. He brought it over cuz it was really slow. I fixed everything (removed spyware, virus, the extra virus protector (don't ask) that wasn't updated) the only problem I can't seem to fix is when winXP would boot up to the desktop it would give error Roxio driver could cause winXP to become unstable and the CDRW and CD player has missing or corrupt driver error Code [39] Well since the Cdroms are not listed under My Computer (only under device manager with the exclamation) I can't re-install roxio or use the WinXP cd to try and fix the driver. It is a Compaq 7596 presario and since it originally had win98 all of the drivers I try to find are only for win98. I have tried uninstalling and rolling back the driver it always reinstalls the same driver and has code [39]. Any suggestions??? Thanks (also the pc pauses on the compaq logo during start up for at least 2 mins during boot up then loads windows. Didn't use to do that) It looked like Roxio had been on the computer but uninstalled before I got a chance to look at it.
