|I have one desktop keyboard that has a button that toggles enabling the F keys while booting - an led lights up when they are enabled. Does yours have that ? (Some laptop keyboards may have that.)|
If that doesn't apply, try another keyboard.
If that doesn't help....
Okay, in that case, you need to try other things.
I recently worked on a system where I couldn't get F8 to pop up the boot choices menu. The following fixed the problem.
If nothing is wrong with the system's hardware, including the hard drive Windows is on, you need to try booting the computer with an XP CD, load the Recovery Console, and run CHKDSK /R C:
That takes a while to run because it checks the entire partition Windows is on for errors.
(I'm assuming the partition Windows was installed on is C - if it isn't on C, which is possible for XP, then use the drive letter of the partition the Recovery Console says the Windows installation is on.)
That MAY fix your problem.
