Can't get past blue screen

Specs: ME

when i start my computer up i get 3 options normal, safe mode, step by step no matter which option i choose i end up getting the blue screen with this message, WHILE INTITIALIZING DEVICE IFSMGR

THE MICROSOFT INSTALLABLE FILE SYSTEM MANAGER CANNOT FIND THE HELPER DRIVER. PLEASE ENSURE THAT IFSHLP.SYS HAS BEEN INSTALLED

SYSTEM HALTED.

i tried restarting my computer but evertime i get the same message! I can't find my startup disk so all i can do is get into setup upon startup. When i get to the blue screen with the message everything is locked up. all i can do is turn off my computer. please help!!

Is this Windows 9x or Millennium? This is a known issue in these versions of windows where the boot.ini gets messed up...

You will need a boot disk and if you can not find yours see if you can find a friend who has one. I think you might be able to download it off the internet...

Never tried it though. Once you are able to boot you must know a little about DOS. Simple commands like CD, ATTRIB and EDIT. Go to your C: drive and edit the boot.ini and make sure the path for windows is properly specified.
