I hav recently installed a Samsung 793b lcd monitor. I have the following onboard: VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller.

Problem is I can't get the text sharp. When I check the display properties, CRT is still chosen and I can't choose LCD. Help! My eyes are killing me! I've reloaded the monitor drivers, display adapter drivers, etc.

Try changing the refresh rate (from 60 to something else, if it allows you to, make sure you test it first...) and/or try changing the screen size (resolution), also, there's an auto/set button on all LCD monitors to set the picture to your screen size... have you pressed this ? One more thing to note is that in Display Properties --> Effects --> Smooth edges of screen fonts

try this on and off... and see if it helps you. I have it on.

I have tried all those remedies and no luck. My eyes are crossing!!! In display/settings/advanced/display the monitor chosen is CRT and it won't let me change to LCD. How can I change this?

if your video card has a digital output, you can get a digital cable for your LCD monitor, this sends digital signals, which correctly resizes the picture.
