can't format Xp

To format my c drive when i insert the boot cd it shows that the setup is inspecting system and black screen appears and it is not proceeding further...plz help

Two ideas. On is the disk is damaged. Other is some hardware or firmware issue with computer.

easier solution go to manufacturers site and get the hd utility for the dr this will give you two things you can do 1 do a complete diag on dr and or a low level format which is what I have had to do several times on hdd that will not format when loading windows cd
