you need to order it directly off the compaq..but that's too much hassle
why don't you just get a new case and transfer everything over??
and why you need a stronger power supply?

Hi Michaelwhizz

Wher in oz mate ?

is your compaq 250 giving you trouble ?

Sure its 250 not a 220 ? But no important, Im not suprised, we have about 600 workstations in my comany and I would say in the last 8 mnths they have rpelaced about 35 of the peices of garbage.

Not as good as they once were sorry to say.

Ryan is right if you can replace the whole case thats providing the board can fit into a standard atx case.

A 350 w will do the job very nicely with what you have. Just depends on how many extra components you have ?

The Codegen 350 should be about 40 - 45 aus in most places. See if you can lay your hands on an Aopen 250 or 300 few more $ but worth every cent.

Regards

Janos

from your subject line, I thought you couldn't find the PSU in the case!

I know OZ is a bit slow, but surely you can order a PSU from USA and have it shipped there.

Compaq5740,P4,2Ghz,256DDR Ram,Geforce2-Radeon9600PRO,250wattes-400wattes.

The main reason I need a new power supply is because I just need more power to upgread my video card. From a geforce2 to a Radeon 9600 PRO.
I think I will buy a new case.
I have another question what are the hardware details for a SoundMAX. I wish to upgread my sound card too if I have to. I wan't a sub-woofer and more speakes. By what I have seen I think I will go for a Z-650 Logitech speakers. But it requires a 5.1 feature and a 6 layer or bit.
I have no idea what my onboard SoundMax has? Any Ideas????

Michael

I a little confused here ! Why would you want to place a 9600 Pro card into a mother board that has no PRO agp slot ? Does your board have an agp slot ? The GF 2 is it an on board or agp card ? Most compac machines had on board sound and video.

You may be throwing good money away on something you will not be able to use.

The sound card would be just a standard two chanel output card. You would need to get a new 5.1 or true 6 chnl pci card. About 75 to 230 AUD.

As for the power supply, save your money and get a ANTEC 380 W truepower PSU. Or the AOPEN 300 W PSU. If you want to run eqpmnt like that psu's of that sort of quality are almosy a must.

Can I sugest that you have a good look at what the motherboard can support before you start spending your money.

I have a contact email addy if you wish to use it.

Regards

I do Have a agp slot and I was planing to buy a sound card/speakes a short way after my video card. My mother board is quite new only last year I bought it and has everything I need apart from Visial/sound wich will be upgreaded soon.

Question for you will the sound card what one would you recommended and speakes. Just remember I play lotes of games and watch a litle of DVD's.

Another Question how would I go about disabling my on-board sound card.

Thanks for the help so far!!!

Hi

To disable your on board card you will need to jump into the bios and turn it of, usualy by changing the setting from AUTO to DESABLE.

Sound cards will depend on your budget, you can start at about $60 with the Creative sound blaster live, and upto 600 for the Audigy extreme or the Hercules cards.

So if you have about 200 this will buy you the creative Audigy 2 6.1 chnl with THX.

As for the speakers, well I am rather one eyed on those, a complete sound and hi fi buff for meore years than I can remember I will say this, with sound you will get what you pay for. In the same breath have a look around town and see if you can find a nice set of POLK AUDIO units.

Apart from that a nice set of Creative, or Altec lansing's will do the job very nicely indeed.

Regards
