Linksys Etherfast wireless router

Specs: Windows vista
I have been successfully using my desktop and the wireless router for my laptop for a couple of years. I just bought a new laptop today and cannot get it to connect to the router. it shows the connection availability but asks for a password. I know I used my phone number, but it is not working. I tried resetting the password on the website, no luck. I am running vista on the new laptop, that isn't the problem because that is what I was running on the old one. The router is a linksys WRT54 S. I am trying to set this up for my son to take to school, so time is limited. any help or guidance would be appreciated.

This will take time. Hook up the ethernet (yellow or blue wire that came with the router) wire to the laptop and the modem. This will connect you. Then click the Windows Sphere and type CMD in the search box. This will open a command line. Type IPCONFIG and press enter. This will tell you your default gateway. Write down the gateway and close the command line window. Go to the Internet Explorer and type the address in the address bar. It should be something like This will get you to the route. Type your admin for the user name and your password. If you did not change it then it will be admin for the password too. Then go to the WiFi tab and select security just underneath. Here you can reset your WiFi password.

If you can not log into the router then you can reset it to the factory defaults by holding in the reset button for 30 seconds. Then either use User:Admin Password:Admin or User:<blank> Password:admin.

Good Luck.

thank you for your help. I am able to access on my desk top, from there I am also able to change he password. It then tells me that I have saved it successfully. So when I go on the new laptop I entered the new password and it is not working still. Forgive me if I am not understanding you correctly, but I don't understand why I would log onto the router on the new laptop, I never had to do that on the other laptop, and as I said I was able to change the password already.
