I am having trouble finding the driver for the chipset on my AMD Duron processor. The chipset is VIA but I don't know how to find what driver is installed. I am recieving VIAGART errors and I think that I need to upgrade the driver. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the reply, but I meant I don't know where to look in my computer to find the currently installed driver. I know that I can find which one should be installed at the VIA page but I dont know how to know what is currently installed on my computer now. But thanks again for the response.

Well I tried the Belarc advisor and was able to look at a lot of my computer information but I did not see anything about drivers. Any other suggestions or did I just not know what to look for.

I think the problem with programs like
Belarc adviser is that it is OK with a
working system, but is unable to resolve
identities in systems with bad or wrong
drivers, since it has to use the drivers to
access the hardware.

Hey Lindsay;

Your chipset is something on your MOBO and not your CPU. You get the drivers from the VIA site or the website of your MOBO manufacturer.

What problems are you having?

I get a an error that says:
file name: VIAGART(01) + 00000a56 error: 0e : 0028 : c006c722
-So what you are telling me is that I can't look somewhere on my computer to find what driver is currently being used for the VIA chipset and I just have to download the most recent one from the manufacturer without even knowing what current driver is being used.

There is freeware that you can use to identify and extract this driver but if you’re having that kind of error, I think your best (and easiest) solution will be to reinstall your VIA 4-in-1 drivers.

Go to www.viatech.com

Get the latest 4in1 drivers.

That is what you need. Installs the GART, IDE BUSMASTER and everything else.

You are correct. VIA chipsets use generic driver from VIA.

Thanks guys. Last question is that it warns me about not using the for in one if I have a (VIA southbridge and AMD northbridge) combo; that I should get the drivers from the Motherboard manufacturer instead. I do have an AMD Duron and a VIA chipset, so do I fall into that catagory. I don't know what Northbridge and Southbridge mean?

I assume that MOBO means motherboard. If that is the case, I have an AMD Duron (TM)

No Lindsay, Duron is you processor. Your motherboard is the green fiberglass board that everything inside connects to. It may be made by ASUS, Gigabyte, Tyan, FIC etc.

Oh, I was not aware of that. Sorry, I dont know that much about computers. I am not at home with my computer that is having the problem right now, so I am not sure what type of MOBO I have. If you could bare with me and can wait till later this afternoon I will be back at home and will post the MOBO type. Thank you so much Badboy for all of your help and patience.

Lindsay, sometimes your original invoice when you bought your unit will spec what the mother board is; also, sometimes your manufacturer of your computer will have a website, or possibly a help telephone number where you can get that information. They on record what mobo was used in your model and year.
