The computer cant seem to find my floppy disk, ive tried 4 floppys and 3 cables but nothing, no error msg just cant find it, need it for formating the HD and reinstalling windows.

Is it listed correctly in the BIOS? (that always helps)
Plugged in the power cable? Correctly?
Does it light up or spin at all when the machine is powered on?
fwiw - some 98 CDs are bootable (on machines that support that function)

jboy nailed it as usual.
If the prob is the floppy DRIVE, try cleaning it. And don't assume the floppy disks are good. There were several threads from the same person [who will remain unnamed, in the interest of protecting the lame] which after great drops of sweat turned out to be a shoebox full of bad floppies.
Also, you can make a DOS boot CD.I carry one in my tool bag which has all my utilites, apps and the win95 & win98 files.
If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2Go

Other mistakes that are made...
The 'A:' drive is the last connector on the cable. The middle connector is 'B:'
If the drive light is on all the time, the cable has been installed upside down.

And, I never can remember for sure, anymore, but I don't believe the drive will work if you flip the cable end for end.
I BELIEVE the twist has to be at the end closest to the drive.

For the boot ("A:") drive, sure, that must be connected after the twist, as ham also stated
Floppy support is a pretty basic computer function - either you have erred somewhere, or 'possibly' the controller itself is bad (not nearly as likely though)

OK first of all thanks for all the info despite my not so good info. But it´s working now and i really dont know what helped hehe. But i removed all cables and cleaned everything, used a new cable and a new floppy so now it works.
And in the bios the only things that coincerned the floppy was the boot order and choices to make if it was a normal floppy or some other formats, and i just started a new job fixing up old computers and we dont have any cd burners so the cd boot wasnt going to be a possibility, but thanks again

Well, that is what was meant by correctly identified in the BIOS, those "choices to make if it was a normal floppy or some other formats"
"we dont have any cd burners so the cd boot wasnt going to be a possibility"
You don't need a CD *burner* to boot from an already bootable CD - any modern CD drive will work, on machines that support a CD bootYou're being paid to repair computers?
Heh - good luck then, sounds like it'll be quite the learning experience for all involved
