Comment: I just attached an external hard drive to my USB 2.0 port, system installed the driver, indicated the device is ready, looked in device manager and it is working properly, checked with "safely Remove Hardware" and it's there to be stopped, but I can't find the device in My Computer or Explorer. I even tried the "Add Hardware" wizard and it said it was already installed. Where is it? I'm puzzled since the system reports it as OK.

Reply: (edit)Hi unless its somthing fancy, xp(sp2) doesnt really need a driver as the external Hdd is seen as a usb device removable drive. try uninstalling the driver, reboot and just plug it in as you would a pen drive, does it detect it? can you access it via windows explorer? what make caddy? btw have you had an ipod on the pc?, i seem to have had no end of bother with ipod software and usb ports not detecting external drives. regards
