Solved Can't Delete Corrupted Folder

Compaq Presario
September 19, 2007 at 14:00:32
Specs: XP Pro, 256

I have tried, without success to delete a corrupted Folder. This is a sub folder that is corrupted, I have tried to delete the main folder, and the sub folder. The system will not let me delete either folder. The only way I know of to delete a folder is DELETE or CUT. Neither one will work.

Any assistance would be appreciated in letting me know how I can delete this folder.

Miracles never cease, I finally got the Corrupted Folder deleted. I decided to give the CUT & Paste another try. I CUT the Bad folder and Pasted it into another Folder, then brought up the folder that I Pasted into. I clicked on the Corrupted Folder and Clicked on DELETE, Lo and Behold it was deleted. Why this worked today and didn't work in the past is beyond me.Unless the Chkdsk I ran yesterday afternoon corrected something.I never attempted a Cut & Paste after the Chkdsk until this morning.

Thanks to every one for the assistance.

Right click on the folder, select properties and untick the read only attribute.

Hi OtheHill,

I did exactly as you said. It didn't work, I received message"Cannot delete, cannot find the specified file".

Thanks

Try rebooting and see if the file is still there. If so, try one of the links in response #3.

HiXpuser$Real,
I tried the "Move on boot utility" twice and the Folder is still there. I double checked the path both times.I received message "The operation will be carried out on the next System reboot", but the folder is still there. I'll try option next and see what happens.

Thanks,

Hi XPUser4Real,

My last post should have read "I'll try option 3 next".

Have you tried running the DISK CLEANUP, SCANDISK or DEFRAG facilities to see if the problem is cured?

One of these might de-corrupt the folder such that it can the be deleted.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Hi XPUser,

I have tried option 1 and 3, neither worked. With UNLOCKER I did as the README.TXT indicated. When I Right clicked on the Bad Folder and sent it to UNLOCKER, nothing happened. I'm going to try option 2 next.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

I tried the Defrag, the system told me I have only 3% available space, and need 15% to Defrag. I'll try Cleanuo and Scandisk next.

Thanks,

Hi everyone,
I ran the DELETEDR, which option 2, setting up and running the DR was very simple. When I gave the DR the path and it executed, it said that the Folder would be deleted on my next Boot. When I Booted, my system gave me message "A disk check is scheduled, Windows will now check the disk".Would you believe, the disk check ran for almost 6 hours. Believe it or not THE FOLDER IS STILL THERE. I may have to live with this BUM foldder for the rest of my life.

Thanks to all for the information.

Cool, glad it works. If it is FAT32, did you try booting off a 98 CD(if you have one) and just deleting it from a command prompt?

Outlander

Booting from a 98 CD and deleting it from a command prompt never entered my mind. Even if it had, I had no 98 CD.
