Received an MP3 player for Christmas. For the first few days I complied many mp3 music files to add to my MP3 player. My first 100 music files loaded with no problems. After that, only 60% loaded OK. The rest came up with an error that it could not find the file. As of today, I cannot copy & paste any files at all. They all come up with the same error. Unable to find file or folder. The player is 1 GB in size and I am so far using up only 280 MB. I tried using the Sync method with WMP 10 and it only aborted the file transfer with no reason or explaination. Half of the time now it freezes my computer and you have to wait several minutes before you can do anything, then I have control of my computer again. It gets worse when I try to stop it so I can remove the USB connection. It says that it is still transferring data and cannot be Stopped at this time. It is an Ilo Mp3 player. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for reading this post if you got this far.

when i put music on my mp3 play i do it by dragging the file within windows explorer or right clicking on the file and selecting send to, then selecting the drive letter for the mp3. have you tried it this way to see if it makes a difference?

Hi Cliffpage:
Thanks for your reply. Yes, dragging and dropping was the way I first installed the initial 100 music files. When I started to notice the errors I switched to copy and paste. I haven't tried the Send To yet, but it's worth a try, thanks. I get back to you.

Ok. That did not work also. Actually the error windows says, Cannot create file, as oppose to cannot find file. My error. I was contemplating erasing everything and starting all over, but I get a bad feeling that if I do erase everything, I won't be able to copy anything at all. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again.

If you're getting file creation errors, it may be due to the format of the MP3 drive - - is it FAT16? If so, there are limits involved

As always jboy, you hit the nail on the head. I was going to post my final results and I saw your reply. That's exactly what it was. I corrected the problem by re-formatting my MP3 player. I then proceeded to re-install my music MP3 files. Worked like a charm. What I don't understand is that when I opened my gift and played the installed music files that came with the player, it worked fine. Why did it only allow me to install a certain number of files, then started giving me errors? I would have thought that they, MP3 mfg., would have already formatted the player and have it ready to use. In any case, problem is solved. Thanks guys for your help.

Yeah, at first, I'd suspected that was the issue, but since you hadn't reported any 'file creation' error, I felt it had to be something else

FAT16 is limited as to the number of files and folders you can have in the root - something like 512, but only if those have 'short' (8.3) names - the use of long filenames greatly reduces the maximum number of files & folders allowed. After the limit is reached, any attempts to add more files there generates a file creation error of some sort

To workaround the limit, you could've left it FAT16 and merely stored the files in a folder. Redoing as FAT32 solves the problem as well
