can't connect to the internet from a compatib

Specs: Windows XP
we have an asus laptop the internet connection has been disabled a red x is over the wifi icon we have tried the switch and the fn f2 keys but on luck what are we doing wrong/

Tell us the model of your laptop.

Whether you're pressing the proper key combo to toggle the wireless connection on / off (that's in the User's or Owner's manual) is only one part of what is required for the connection to the internet to work.

Your high speed modem must be actually connecting to the internet.

If you're using Security settings for the wireless connection to whatever you're connecting to, such as a router, the settings on both ends must be compatible with each other.

The strength of the signal between your laptop and whatever you're connected to wirelessly must be strong enough.
