Can't connect pendrive into 1 of 4 USB ports

Specs: Windows XP
USB port4 not able to connect Kingston DataTraveler 1 256MB but other 3 ports able to connect. the 4 ports are from same ehci controller. Kingston DataTraveler G2 16GB able to connect to all 4 ports. may i know what should i do next. Please advice

I don't think all 4 ports are connected to ONE USB controller. More likely TWO controllers.

Do you have an internal card reader? If so, that may be a THIRD port on the same controller as #3 USB port. USB controllers do have a finite amount of current that can be used so perhaps the controller is being overloaded.

Perhaps there is something wrong with the flash drive in question.
