can't change boot order

Specs: Windows XP
when i go into bios set up to change the boot order the bios won't let me in to change the boot order. what can i do to fix that

Each bios manufacture can use a different key to enter the bios setup f2 del esc and so on.

Knowing what brand of computer would help in telling you what key to press at start up.

Also is this a desktop or a laptop?
The bios may be password protected.
If protected you can view but not make changes. So knowing what you are working with is a must.

Some BIOSes are not as user friendly. I suspect that is what you have. If you can't select the first boot device from a list then the way that BIOS works is that you highlight a selection and then use the arrow or page UP/Dn keys to move that select up or down in the order.

to world library. the computer i'm using is an amd sempron and is a desktop. when i get inot the bios i select advanced settings and then when i use the up down arrows and i get to the first boot i can't get into there to even view it. can i change that

Read the screen prompts. If the arrow keys moves the cursor then page up/down or plus/minus may move the selection.
