Hello everyone. I recently bought a new case/power supply with mobo and P4 CPU. I purchased memory from crucial.com. When the computer gets through the POST stuff, it reboots, never making it to the operating system.

Motherboard: FoxConn 648FX4MR-ES
Memory: 2x512 184 pin DIMM DDR 3200 Unbuffered
CPU: Pentium P4 2.4gig

When I first brought it home, I tried 2x1 gig DDR modules that I have and had the same problem. Thinking this memory wasn't compatable with the mobo, I bought the memory that is supposed to work with this mobo from crucial.com.

I transfered my hard drive from my old computer to the new computer and didn't hook up anything else. I used the onboard video to test.

Any recommendations would be appretiated. Thanks!

Did you remove the drivers from the OS fro your old hardware before transfering the HDD ??

If not than that could be your problem !!

Hit the PF8 Key when the pc boots and see if you can boot the os in Safe MOde.

If you can remove the old drivers from the OS and reboot using the native windoes drivers, than you can install the new ones for your new hardware.

If you cant get into safe mode at all, you might be forced to reload the OS from scratch.

But first of all check your bios to make sure all setings are correct and all attached hardware is recognised.

Hope that helps

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Above post pretty much says it all. You can also test your memory with memtest86 which is free for download.

If the old HD. has XP on it you can't just move it from old computer to new if chip set is differt you will be it a re boot cycle. If you boot from CD and do a repair install you could fix it. or boot from CD format and reinstall. If you would have run Sysprep -pnp on the drive while in old computer and then moved to new it could have worked.
