im trying to clean install win xp on my other computer but i cant get it to boot from the cd. iv changed the cmos setting to boot from cdrom but that didnt seem to work. i downloaded setup boot disks for win xp but they came up with errors. i dont know what to do i fromatted my hdd and know theres nothing on it. i have a packard bell, 128mb ram, 20gig, amd atholon processor. please can someone help. thanks

You could use the windows 98 bootdisk to bootup. Make sure to boot from floppy first and then do a format again (do a quick one). Then take out the floppy and reboot. Boot into cd first and insert the windows cd. It should begin the installation.

i tried that it wont boot from the cd and i downloaded the boot disk but it says remove disks and other media.

Hi.In the BIOS there should be an option to 'Reset defaults' or 'Load System Defaults' (something like that,it differs slightly from BIOS to BIOS).Try that first.If thats no good flash the BIOS with the latest image and try again.As you say,it SHOULD boot from the CD.This may be a silly question but are you using a genuine CD?i.e is it bootable?Sorry but had to ask....

so your saying that after t\you put this bootup disk in http://www.mirrors.org/archived_software/www.bootdisk.com/original.htm the one on the bottom of that site, and type i386\winnt.exe at the cd letter then pressed enter, you got that (remove disks and other media) sounds like a bad Xp cd or bios needs flashed..
