I've had a problem with getting the pictures from someone elses digital camera transferred onto my computer. It is a Kodak EasyShare LS443 camera. There are pics stored on it and when I plug it into the computer to try to view and transfer the pics onto the computer, I see no pics and nothing transfers. What could be the problem? Thanks for any help.

Do you have the camera software loaded onto your computer? If not then the camera direct would not be able to "talk" to your system - do you have a card reader and photo capture software??

Yes, I installed the software to it on the computer. I made sure I followed the manual and all to get it right since I'm not familiar with digital cameras. I couldn't view any pics on the camera from the software. No pics were displayed for some reason. I'm not sure what you mean though by a card reader and photo capture software.

If I remember correctly (I had a Kodak digicam a year ago) the camera has to be connected to the PC via USB cable, the Kodak driver/sofware loaded BEFORE the cable is connected, the camera switched on and the software SHOULD automatically pick up the pictures?? I do remember, however, that I did have a problem getting the software to load correctly and had to resort to a visit to the Kodak site to sort it! It might be worth doing just that.
A card reader is just that - it's a small piece of hardware that sits outside the 'puter, connected via USB cable, into which you slot your camera card and download the pictures direct from the card (saves connecting the camera). The capture software is the software which came with the camera into which you place your photos for viewing/editing: what I had with my Kodak was very simple to use though it was not very sophisticated.
Check your programs - to ensure that the software is in fact recognised and istalled since it will be listed in the program list. Try to open it to see if it does open. You can contact me on my email address if you wish.

Found this on Kodak site - any use??
Question:
My Kodak digital camera won't connect to my Windows XP computer although it previously worked with XP. What's wrong?
Answer: Answer last updated:11-06-03
The problem may be with your Windows XP settings. To enable your camera connection:
Click Start > Control Panel.
If necessary, click Switch to Category View.
Select Performance and Maintenance.
Under Control Panel Icons, click the System icon. The System Properties window displays.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click Device Manager. The Device Manager window displays.
Select Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click USB Root Hub.
Click Properties. The USB Root Hub Properties window displays.
Click the Power Management tab.
Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box. (This will prevent a power loss to the USB port.)
Click OK to close the USB Root Hub Properties window.
Close all open Control Panel windows.
