I have been unsuccesfully tring to use this printer on this computer.
If I have the computer on and plug the printer USB cable Windows recognises it OK and launches the new hardware installation wizard, I have used both the wizard and the printer's installation CD to install the drivers and everything runs smoothly.
If I check the device manager the printer is there recognised properly. But whenever I try to print anything nothing happens or a message sayng that the system cannot communicate with USBPRN01 because there is "invalid memory allocation".
When I check the printer properties on the details tab next to the port name it says "device not connected" and on USBPRN02 it says "unknown port".
Any ideas?

One of the more charming features of this printer is that it shuts itself off if it encounters problems - this is the source of the 'system cannot communicate' message.
If it's the same model that I was working on, there is no indicator light or power switch - the unit has to be physically unplugged to reset.
You might check your USB settings in Device Manager - initially that was the problem with this one - although, in the long run, once that was cleared up, the printer eventually became unusable.
Overall, less than impressed.
Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

Thanks jboy for your help, I agree with you that this printer is strange to say the least.
I checked the device manager and everything seems to be OK. Whenever I try to print anything the error message says "error while attempting to write on USBPRN02 with canon s200 access to memmory address is not valid"
Is there anything else I could try?

I'd be completely guessing, but it sounds as if there may be a problem with the machine's onboard memory - assuming it has any.
Don't generally have a lot to do with printers, but I was connecting that one to a fresh install of 98/XP for my SiL - the printer had issues prior to this, which seemed to be related to USB problems in Device Manager under XP.
Did get it working briefly, under both OS's but new problems arose with the print head - and that seems not to be unusual for that model.
Best of luck - I found the thing to be pretty frustrating, and I suspect it might take a service call to set it right (if at all) - and which may be more money than it's worth
