Comment:

OS is XP. When I click the Twain button in Paperport 7, or select File - Acquire from the menu, then Paperport 7 hangs up.

There are drivers in the C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\MP600 folder and I assume one or more of them is for using Twain. I have assigned the user environment variable PATH to point to this folder.

Canon and Nuance (current owner of Paperport) continue to ignore my attempts to obtain further information.

Why are you manually installing twain drivers? The installation CD for the scanner should do that for you.

Is the version of Paperport 7 a full or a bundled version?

Below is a link for all the drivers and software for the scanner.

I didn't say I manually installed it, and in fact, I did not do that. I have been researching this problem and saw a suggestion to make sure that PATH was pointing to the correct folder. Unfortunately, that did not solve the issue of not having scans go into Paperport 7 (which is the full application and not a bundled one).

I hope this additional information helps clarify the situation.

Thanks for the link, but I don't think I'm missing any relevant drivers.

Was Paperport installed AFTER the scanner was configured or before? What, if anything was in service before?

Both. Timeline:

Paperport 7 (PP7) and a OneTouch scanner.

Then we got a multifunction machine, Canon MP600. Got rid of OT scanner.

Couldn't get PP7 to work with the MP600.

Uninstalled PP7 and tried using the software bundled with the MP600. Worst piece of junk I've ever seen.

Reinstalled PP7 and still couldn't get it to work.

Have tried throughout getting support from Canon and Paperport. Knowing how laughable an action that was, have also been trying to search the web for a fix.

Are you sure the bundled software for this All in One has Paperport 7, and not Paperport 9 as google indicated? Paperport 7 is an ancient version - too old for use with Windows XP.

No, no. The software bundled with the all-in-one is MP Navigator and is absolute utter c..p - and that's an understatement.

PP7 came long before the a-i-o...please re-read my previous post.

And I sincerely assure you PP7 worked to my complete and utter satisfaction on an XP machine (with the OneTouch scanner, which is with us no more).

The current issue is to get PP7 to work with the a-i-o, a Cannon MP600.

I hope that clears up the misunderstanding.

According to what I found PP 7 is supposed to run on Win2000. That usually means it should run on WinXP too.

I don't see any meantion in the Canon manual that addresses using third party software with the scanner. Does the scanner work at all? Should be able to scan and then print something. At least would show the scanner is operational.

PPort has a list of compatible scanners. Even when setting to use the latest version that scanner doesn't appear on the list. The scanner may not use twain drivers at all. There is another supposed newer type of driver called ISIS if memory serves me correctly.

At any rate I am thinking this may be an exercise in futility. I did notice the Canon Software can convert images to PDF. You may be able to import the PDFs into paperport after conversion.

I second Othehill.

There are two kind of Paperport software - Retail & Special Edition.

Retail Paperport will work with any scannable printer whereas the Special Edition will work only with the printer it came with.

Your only choice is head outdoor to the Mall to buy the retail version.
