Cannot initialise Seagate 500 GB SATA drive i

Specs: Windows XP, 4 GB RAM
I'm trying to replace my damaged drive in my Acer Aspire 753s Laptop, I have installed a new Seagate 500 GB 7200 SATA Drive, which shows on the BIOS settings but I cannot configure the drive so any attempt to load an OS fails as the drive is not usable. I have been advised that I need to load some kind of driver to make the drive accessible.
I have been on the Seagate download area but there does not seem to be any driver to do the job!
I have formatted the drive using a USB floppy drive but thats as far as I can ever get.

Any help provided would be gratefully revived.
