I have a brand new Maxtor 250 Hard Drive. I tried to put it in a computer here as the Secondary Master drive, and it didnt show up in the BIOS or Windows. Then I tried the Secondary Slave, and that didnt work either. I then tried to add the drive to another computer as a Slave and it worked, so I know the drive isnt DOA. Anything Im doing wrong? Thanks for the help?

Have you verified that the power cable to the hard drive is working properly? While touching (be careful of static electricity) the drive with the system on, can you feel a slight vibration from the platters spinning?

Is the cable select jumper on?
===================================== If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Besides bios settings, jumpers and cabling, are you sure the bios is capable of seeing a drive that large? If it's the 3.2 gig P-4 you listed then I think it'd see the drive OK. An older computer may not see it. The best fix for that is to get a 48-bit ATA card and attach the drive to it.

the bios should be set to AUTO for the positions it is installed in. secondary master, secondary slave etc. it is possible BIOS is set to NONE for those positions if there was not a drive in those positions before.
